Poets like Camilla Collett that wrote Amtmandens døtre and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, with Synnøve Solbakken are two good examples during this era.

Synnøve Solbakken is a story about farmers, the life in the villages and young love. Bjørnson is known to be very national romantic in his first works, but after a while his writings got a more realistic and critical style.

Amtmandens døtre, came out in 1855 is about Sofie that has three sisters who are married away to men they don’t love. Sofie decides that she is not going to get an unhappy marriage by marrying the wrong person. But to the end she realizes that she needs to be provided for, and that love has nothing to do with that.

Collett wished to point out that women also have feelings that should be taken under consideration. The novel confronted the position of females in the society.
